As part of its ongoing efforts to develop the educational process and strengthen the link between higher education outcomes and the labor market, the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a number of scientific and academic events. The symposium, organized by the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources for its graduates, was attended by the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmed Ghazi Muhammad; the Scientific Assistant, Professor Dr. Sadiq Jabbar Mohsen; the Head of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Professor Dr. Khalida Salem Khudair; and a number of college professors, students, and alumni.
The symposium opened with a speech by Dr. Khalida, in which she welcomed the attendees and emphasized that this symposium represents an important step in strengthening the relationship between the department and its graduates and opening up horizons for cooperation in the fields of scientific research, training, and professional development. She noted that the graduates represent the true extension of the department's academic journey.
The forum included open discussions and presentations addressing graduates' experiences in the labor market and the challenges they face. A number of ideas and proposals were also presented for developing curricula, enhancing training opportunities, and collaborating with public and private sector institutions.
The forum concluded with the importance of continuing to hold this annual forum to enhance interaction between graduates and academic staff and support the development of students' practical skills through effective field training programs and institutional partnerships.
It is worth noting that the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra seeks, through these initiatives, to develop its academic programs in line with international quality standards and enhance its contribution to community service and the development of the agricultural, environmental, and fisheries sectors in Iraq.
