The University of Basra organizes a seminar on the role of genetic engineering and molecular technologies in addressing the challenges facing date palms.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "The Role of Genetic Engineering and the Use of Molecular Technologies in Overcoming the Challenges Facing Date Palms."

The seminar, presented by Professor Dr. Aqeel Hadi Abdul Wahid, addressed the impact of environmental stresses, particularly salinity and drought, on date palm productivity and the importance of employing genetic engineering and molecular technologies to improve plant tolerance to these conditions.

The seminar also reviewed the role of genes as biomarkers through gene expression techniques, in addition to the potential of gene transfer in genetic improvement programs.

The seminar also highlighted the use of artificial intelligence in this field, presenting a set of smart software and the prospects for its use in addressing environmental challenges. This led to future visions aimed at producing highly efficient date palms that contribute to resource sustainability and agricultural security.
