Basra University organizes a seminar on biofertilizers.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a discussion session on biofertilizers and their role in plant production and disease control.
The session, presented by Professor Abdulnabi Abdulamir Matroud, aimed to examine the role of living organisms, both bacterial and fungal, in increasing plant production.
The session also addressed the role of bacteria, particularly some genera commonly used in biofertilizers, in secreting certain organic acids such as fumaric acid and acetate acid, which possess the ability to release phosphate ions.
The session also addressed the role of some biocontrol fungi, particularly mycorrhizal fungi, in increasing the availability of elements. This is achieved by increasing the activity of phosphorus-dissolving enzymes, such as phosphatase, and lowering the soil pH through the secretion of a number of organic acids.
