The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on "Honeybee Poisoning by Pesticides."
The seminar, presented by Dr. Mohammed Alwan Salman, aimed to identify the realities and problems facing honeybees exposed to continuous pesticide spraying and its impact on the bees' health, behavior, and products.
The seminar covered the causes and methods of direct and indirect pesticide exposure in honeybee colonies, highlighting the most significant causes and the often poorly planned methods of pesticide application without considering the effects of these pesticides on bee colonies and their products, most importantly honey.
The seminar recommended finding effective solutions and treatments to reduce the harm to honeybee colonies through shared responsibility among farmers and beekeepers, ultimately leading to outcomes that benefit humans, the agricultural environment, bees, and their products.
