The Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra participated in the workshop entitled "The Role of Civil Society in the Integrated Process of Addressing the Effects of Climate Change," organized by the People's Aid Organization (PAO) under the auspices of the Prime Minister's Office. The Dean presented a paper entitled "The Role of Scientific and Academic Research in Engaging Civil Society in Applied Solutions to Mitigate the Impacts of Climate Change on the Agricultural and Environmental Sectors." The paper was prepared by the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed, Head of the Agricultural Advisory Office (in addition to his official duties), and Professor Dr. Mohsen Abdulhai Dashar, Director of the Agricultural Advisory Office. Professor Dr. Mohsen Abdulhai presented the paper on behalf of the Dean, highlighting the role of scientific research outputs—whether master's theses, doctoral dissertations, or individual research by faculty members—in finding sound applied scientific solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change on the agricultural and environmental sectors. These solutions can contribute to the sustainability of agricultural activities (plant, animal, and fish) through the application of modern technologies and advanced solutions to real problems. This, in turn, contributes to enhancing food security and reducing degradation and pollution, provided these solutions are adopted and implemented by relevant authorities and ministries. The relevant executive bodies.
Abdulhai also expressed the college's readiness to provide all data and recommendations from the aforementioned research findings to relevant government agencies and civil society organizations, for the purpose of utilizing and implementing them in the form of pioneering projects that can contribute to supporting the national economy and increasing the well-being of workers in the agricultural sector.
It is worth noting the presence of Professor Dr. Amjad Kadhim Rasen, Head of Scientific Promotions at the college, representing the Dean, as well as Assistant Professor Dr. Rashad Adel Omran, Head of the Department of Soil Science and Water Resources. This reflects the college's commitment to strengthening its academic presence in forums that shape the country's environmental and agricultural policies.
