The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra held a celebration commemorating the birth of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance). The event was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Muhammad Al-Shawi, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Sadiq Jabbar Muhsin, faculty members, students, and staff.
The students' celebration of Imam Mahdi's birth, organized in coordination with the Media and Government Communication Department and the Student Activities Department, and in cooperation with the college's departments, aimed to share in the joy of the birth of their Imam on the 15th of Sha'ban, 255 AH. The celebration included a variety of activities that reflected the blessings and joy of this great occasion.
The celebration was held in the belief that Imam Mahdi is the twelfth Imam, currently in occultation, and will one day return to save humanity and fill the earth with justice and equity after it has been filled with injustice and oppression.
During his attendance, the Dean emphasized that commemorating these occasions reinforces spiritual and educational values within the university community, reflecting a belief in the humanitarian message of the Twelfth Imam (may God hasten his reappearance) in spreading the values of justice and equity on Earth. He also noted that "the students' participation in these celebrations reflects their adherence to their cultural and religious identity, and provides an opportunity to draw lessons in patience and hope for a future characterized by justice and peace."
The celebration included the Dean honoring a group of female students who wear the hijab, in recognition of their commitment to noble Islamic values and a dignified cultural identity within the university campus. He affirmed that this honor serves to encourage female students to adhere to the Fatimid approach and emulate the noble example of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). Roses and sweets were distributed, and speeches and poems were recited expressing love for the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), amidst prayers that God protect Iraq and its people, and that these occasions bring further blessings and prosperity to the educational journey.
