A doctoral dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, explored "An Environmental Study of Some Invertebrates in Khor Al-Zubair."
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Hanan Abdul-Hafiz Ali, aimed to identify the macroinvertebrates present in the Khor Al-Zubair area, determine peak seasons, study some environmental factors, calculate biodiversity indices for the studied organisms, and compare these indices across different stations.
The study concluded that Khor Al-Zubair is heavily polluted, which has significantly impacted the presence and density of the studied invertebrate species.
The study recommended addressing and reducing pollution and emphasized the necessity of continuous environmental monitoring of the Khor Al-Zubair environment to preserve biodiversity.
