University of Basra organizes a seminar on diatomaceous earth: a sustainable physical method of controlling insect pests.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on diatomaceous earth for improving the future of sustainable agriculture. The seminar, presented by Professor Jinan Malik Khalaf, aimed to highlight the importance of diatomaceous earth, which is considered one of the most important natural alternatives to chemical pesticides. It is characterized by a physical mechanism of action that reduces the likelihood of developing resistance.

The seminar addressed its commercial and applied uses as a non-toxic insecticide. Given the increasing global trend towards reducing pesticide use and protecting the environment, diatomaceous earth represents a qualitative shift in integrated pest management. The seminar also discussed the reliance on a physical mechanism to reduce pesticide resistance and bridged the gap between ecosystems and agricultural technology.
